What is an Empath or Sensitive?

An empath typically has sensitivity, along with heightened intuition and empathy, making them gifted in sensing how other people are feeling. The nervous systems of empaths and highly sensitive people (HSP) are ‘wired’ in ways that create heightened sensory awareness. While this is such a gift in the world, high sensitivity can also lead to sensory overload, feeling overwhelmed by the problems or emotions of others, or sensitivity to imbalances in our environment.

When people are innately caring and conscientious it’s easy to over give and over function. This tendency can often go hand in hand with difficulty saying no and asserting healthy boundaries. However, frequently over-extending ourself can impact the nervous system, causing increased feelings of overwhelm and energetic depletion. This is especially the case during times of stress, illness, or when experiencing unhealthy or imbalanced situations, or relationships.

A frequent theme in my work with empaths and sensitives is a history of past trauma. Over time we all accumulate unresolved emotions from previous upsets, relationships and events in our life and may need support to move through them. When the underlying emotions, beliefs and associated memories are resolved, we are free from repeating similar patterns in our life.

In my work with empaths and highly sensitive people, I encourage clients to be kind with themselves, as we move through a process of change and transformation. When we embrace and welcome any challenges with compassion, they are no longer held in the shadows and are healed and integrated back into our wholeness. The greater our wholeness, the more fully we can embody the gifts we have to share.

This means I am able to work safely and effectively with a wide variety of clients and issues.
